Modify library symbol

How can I modify a hinge on an exterior door to change the hinge dimensions.  I have a decorative door to which I want to add "strap hinges".  I found the hinge style in the "cabinet" section of the library, but it does not fit the door thickness and it is too small (length and width).  I would like to adjust the hinge dimensions but there is no way I can see to do this.  If I could "blow the symbol apart", I could "fake it in".  Any suggestions?

select the hinge in the library and move it anywhere into your plan. Open the hinge and modify as needed.  Move it into position on the door.hinge placed into plan from the library.  Open and modify
