hip roof that dies into wall of shed roof addition

Hi,

Our single-story house was built with a hip roof throughout.  A rectangular addition was added to the with a shed-style roof.  The addition was just scabbed on to an existing exterior wall and the eave / rafter ends were just cut off flush where the new addition was added.  As such, the existing hip roof just dies into the vertical wall (the high side) of the new shed-roof addition.

The hip roof and the shed roof are about 2 1/2 in 12 pitch.  The high side of the shed wall that is adjacent to the existing house is about 12 feet high.  The low side of the shed wall is away from the existing house and about 8 feet high.

I can't figure out how to get Home Designer Architectural 2018 to accommodate this roof configuration.

Can anybody provide me the exact steps to model this shed-style-roof-next-hip-roof design ?

Cheers,

Eric, I provided a great deal of information about a very simple roof layout and did include screen captures in both this and the previous post.  Please respond with actionable information / solutions rather than forum moderating the way you would like to see that information compiled.

My concern is that you're just derailing my very straightforward and detailed questions with your wishes.

I made a simple 3D model of the roof configuration I'm trying to model in Sketch-Up and attached it here.  For reference, the original posting I made has the floor plan attached so you can see the Shed Roof portion of the floor plan and relate it to this 3D image.  Thanks much.

Wow!  You did it Urchin11!

My plan, now attached, currently has an exterior wall defined as the divider between the original house and the shed-roof addition room.  Is that right or should it be interior ?

The shed-roof addition area is divided into multiple room areas,  a small hallway bit, 2 bathrooms, a bedroom and 2 closets.  Would I be setting the height of all of those individually or is there a better (single) place to do that ?

If you could point out specifically how to change the room heights that would be a big help.  I'm assume you mean some setting in the "Edit Object -> Structure" settings.

The key part I haven't figured out is that in the structure dialog box it describes ceiling heights.  The "ceiling" in this area is just the underside of the beams and tongue-and-groove 2x8's that make up the structure of the roof.  This of course follows the pitch of the roof rather than being the traditional ceiling that is typically horizontal and at the height of the top plates of the wall as is shown in the "Structure" dialog.

I changed just the shed roof room height, under room properties/structural change the ceiling height, yes make an exterior wall, you can uncheck "ceiling over this room" to get the sloped roof, there is a ceiling structure just below that can be used adjust ceiling thickness.

if you open a second window with a cross-section of the room you can see the changes

FYI the program does have a mind of it's own, auto-making the roof is not always possible, but roofs can be manually drawn, they have tutorials on company web site, but it is a little tedious
