How do I create a front porch on my existing drawing?

I have a plan of a house.  It sits on a brick foundation (crawl space) that raises the first floor about 24" above grade.  I need to add a brick front stoop and steps at the front door.  I am new to HD so this is probably a simple question, but I can't figure out how to do it.  I have attached to JPEGs (one of the actual house and one is a screenshot of my drawing).  Can someone give me simple directions on how to proceed?

Create a room in front of the door, rename that room to porch, click the stair tool to add stairs.

 

Use the doorway or rail tool for the porch.

Probably what he was looking for was how to make the room above grade. That tutorial doesn't get into that
