I am trying to adjust the position of posts that hold up the roof on a covered deck. The current posts which are part of the deck railing, were automatically generated when the deck was created. How do I manually position the posts?

Sometimes the default post objects do not work (as in this case) so what you do is to set Newel posts to 1/16" (so they will not show) and then place post objects manually, so you can precisely set their spacing. You can use a post object or use a custom slab, shaped like a post or even a soffit reshaped to appear like a post and then place those objects as you wish.

In this situation, I would set the Newels/Balusters Spacing parameter to something greater the the total length of the railing. This will eliminate all but the two end post -- which your drawn in post will cover.

I don't see a break in the railing for stairs, but if needed, just place and size a doorway in the railing to create the opening.

Hi David,

Is it possible to edit the footing spacing for deck posts in the Architectural version? The page https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/products/product-chooser.html indicates this is possible, but I can't seem to be able to select the footings like you did in the video you posted above. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
