  1. Hi there,

Newish to using HDP for my remodeling business. I'm hoping its possible to calculate wall areas of rooms or entire floors from a given plan in order to help in pricing installations. I'm currently working on a plan to add a third floor using a clients attic space. I'm fairly happy with the drawing so far, but would love to calculate the wall space so I can get a general idea as to square footage in order to price the framing and drywall installation.

I'm using Home Designer Pro 2016. The walls have adjusted heights from one end to the other in order to account for the estimated pitch of the roof overhead, if that matters to the programs ability to calculate surface area.

    Many Thanks in advance!

  2. Camera views view from a specific location or viewpoint. This view point is established by the action of you left-clicking in your plan view to create a camera view. Zooming is not intended to move the viewpoint's location in plan view. You can manually move the camera's viewpoint using arrow keys on your keyboard which does not zoom the view but actually moves its plan view location.

You really should read the Users Guide  and then start reading-studying through the entire Reference Manual, to do so makes everything less confusing.

Zooming from exterior to interior  (using the mouse scroll wheel) seems to be a new feature of HD2017.

As David said, you can do the same thing using the arrow keys  (HD 2016 and prior).

However, you must use a FULL CAMERA view of the exterior, in order for it to work, as described.

Thank you David and Jo Ann,

It was simply an issue I think of my version being 2016 and using the scroll wheel as oppose to the arrow keys. The tutorial that I had seen most recently showed scrolling from exterior to interior using the scroll wheel, however the directional keys serve the purpose just as well. I also see the point of the directional key moving the camera itself rather than the view 'zooming'.

Thanks again for the simple fix!

  3. Using:

    Home Designer Pro 2016

    17.3.2.2.OSX

    iMac

3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512 MB

I'm fairly new to HD, so this may be a mundane question, but how does, or can one, zoom from exterior to interior views? I've seen it done in multiple tutorial videos, but mine does not. When zooming the exterior wall simply gets closer and closer rather than moving 'through' the wall to the inside of the plan. Is it my version? Is the only workaround making walls invisible in the display menu? Very cumbersome for what I use it for.

Thank you in advance for any help or response.
