  1. Thank you, Eric. That was it. But, it now seems that the space under the stairs and the main room are grouped together into one room. I must have something misaligned. I'll work on it a bit and if I can't figure it out I'll attach my plan for more help.

    Thanks again.

  2. I'm trying to remove a railing from a bottom stair in my plan and don't see any options in the stair properties to do this.

I did find a help article about placing railing manually.

    https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00082/manually-adding-railings-to-a-staircase.html.

I tried this and while it did allow me to place a railing on the desired steps, it had the negative effect of causing the wall below the steps to disappear. If I redraw the wall then the railing disappears. What am I missing?

  3. OK, that worked. Thanks. It turns out the front gable wall was set for "No Room Definition". Knee walls were OK.  How do I break the wall along the roof line of the gable to prevent the interior wall definition from extending out past the gable? See attached pic.

Also is it possible to do a "doll house" view into this room? If I set the view to the second story it just shows the roof. If I set it to the first story it shows the garage.

  4. Hi. I need some help in adjusting the attached plan. I want to finish a room above the garage, but I obviously have something screwed up with the structure of the garage. The floor of this room should be level with the 2nd floor of the house, but it's not. The room should have knee walls that are about four feet high on either side and the floor should be level with the floor on the 2nd story of the home. Can some adjust my plan or let me know what I need to do to get it right?

  5. I have  storage room in the basement of my plan. For this room I have selected the "Floor under this room" option in the room specification dialog. The problem is that for some reason HD isnt remembering this setting when I save, close and then reopen the project. This results in objects that are in that room apearing on the first floor. Any thoughts?

  6. I made wooden ceiling beams using soffets. The problem I am having is the beams are appearing with crown molding because the wall/floor is set to use crown molding. How do I prevent the molding from appearing on the beams? The soffets do not have a moldling defined.

  7. Thanks guys, but I am trying to replicate the attached. You can see the pole spacing is not uniform. Do I need to break the railing and change the spacing to acheive this look?

  8. I am trying to adjust the position of posts that hold up the roof on a covered deck. The current posts which are part of the deck railing, were automatically generated when the deck was created. How do I manually position the posts?

  9. Dave and Eric thanks for taking the time to look into my problem(s). Its really appreciated. After looking at the project file Eric provided and watching Dave's video some of the mistakes were pretty clear.

What I was attempting to do was have the room over the garage at the same level as the 2nd floor of the main house, but have the garage floor lower than the 1st floor of the main house. It was my intent to have the finished ceiling heights of the house at 9'  and 8'. The ceiling in the garage should be 9' plus the difference between its floor and the floor of the main home. I was also fighting how the height of the garage and the room above it effected the porch roof and its overhang. If the height of the garage wasn't at a certain level, the overhang on the porch became excessive.

I sunk the garage floor in an attempt to do this, maybe I should have raised the main house instead?

What are the correct settings for the garage floor if my intent is that its foundation be a slab built on top of a foundation wall but with no room below it? I am a bit confused by that.

    Currently I have:

    "Floor Under this room" unchecked,

"Floor supplied by the foundation room below" checked

    "Monolithic Slab Foundation" unchecked.

Thanks again for all your help.

  10. Having a problem with a room over a garage that has a full dormer wall. I just cant get it to work. Either I end up the roof being deformed because the walls on the second story are full height or HD not recognizing the space as a room, HD giving me a error on the knee walls not interesting the roofline or triangle gaps in the wall on the house. I started by building the garage walls and defining the wall the holds the garage doors as a Full Dormer Wall, then I built the second story and attempted to add the knee walls. The roofs are being generated by auto roofs. My first pic is what the exterior should look like, minus the return sticking through the roof. Thats another problem. Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.

  11. Dave,

Thanks again for the help! It apears that was the problem. I had house's setback on lot pretty far. I move the home closer to the front of the lot (terrain model) and the issues went away. I also tried to adjust the Default camera clipping distance to 300" from 24" as suggest by the post you linked to, that worked as well.

  12. I have started to experience an issue with 3D rendering in my project. It appears that the outer most skin or layer of an object is transparent. Note in the attached image, you can see the OSB beneath the shingles in places. I have attempted to adjust the render options but that didn't fix it. I also tried opening the file on another machine and observed the same problem. Any thoughts?
