  1. I suspect this may be a limitation in Home Designer Architecture 2021, but is there a way to change elements in the framing view or add additional framing elements? It's very cool that it generates the framing view, but when doing a renovation versus a new project, many of the joists are already set and won't be changed.

  2. If I insert rich text into my plan view I have it default to 3" side in the default settings.

But sometimes I want larger text. If I double click to rich text block in the plan view it gives me the option to change the font style and size. But when I change the size and press ok, nothing changes.

    Insert some rich text:

    double click it:

    specification box opens:

Change the size to 5" and press Ok.

    Nothing happens:

  3. I'm doing a kitchen renovation on my house and using home designer architecture 2021. I'm ready to print my plan views for my building permit, but the print function doesn't include any additional information about the plan. I would have expected it to include a box with things like 1/4" = 1' and the name of the project and the date etc.

I figure I'll just add that in as rich text, but what information is usually included in a floor plan besides the scale?

  4. Is there a way to lock the dimensions of a slab object so it doesn't change shape and instead just moves? Using these slabs no longer has the snapping issue like the walls did, but every time I just try to move it over an inch or two the whole shape changes.

  5. I'm trying to draw some existing cmu foundation piers. When I try to set the dimensions between the piers the height and width of the piers keep changing instead of just moving the pier to the correct location. It seems that I am unable to move a pier closer than 9" to another one. If I do the two seem to snap together and merge. How do I avoid this?

I choose 8" CMU Stem wall_2 has a thickness of 8" Length of 16". So far so good.

Temporily I place it in. I want to move it up and to the right.

When I click it... only 3 boxes come up. I don't want to change the left/right dimensions. I want it to remain 16x8. The red dot only allows me to move it up and down... i cannot move it right/left.

When I drag it up to the exterior wall, suddenly the whole thing grows! It's now 20x8!! What's going on??

Messing around with it, 9" is as close as it will let me place it.

Any closer than 9" and it does this again:

    Any suggestions?

  6. I have hit a problem I can't figure out. I want a half-wall on a stairwell, but coming from the ceiling down to the stringer. The closest I have gotten is a stairwell panel, but it looks weird. Any suggestions? Using Home Designer Architectural 2021.

The closest I have come, but this panel seems like it is supposed to be up against a wall.:

just a straight wall outside of the stairwell:

  7. That's a fair point. I come from a background in Solidworks CAD, which is great for engineering, not for architecture. SW takes a best guess at which object remains stationary and which one expands/contracts. Certainly makes me recognize the complexity under the hood.

  8. I'm using Home Designer Architectural 2021. I just added it to my signature for future reference, good suggestion.

I think I figured it out. I found if I clicked on the wall/window/door first, then the dimension I was able to change the number. That is VERY unintuitive interface, but I can understand why it's necessary.

  9. This seems like it should be very easy, but I can't get it to work. I only just started using this CAD about an hour ago, so be gentle.

I have drawn walls, it automatically added dimensions. If I try to click on the dimensions it brings up the "dimension line specification" box, which I don't want. I just want the type in the value of the dimension. I've seen it pop up, but I can't repeat it.

    What am I doing wrong?

If I click on the 139 7/8" it pops this up:

    image.thumb.png.71059a04fcd021ca9bb8f10e66e4bf8c.png

I don't want to change that! I want to change the length.
