  1. Make the one wall that will retain the sheetrock a different style from the others.  Then edit the three wall style and remove the sheetrock.

  2. Yes Alan, dead giveaway huh :-)

Once I convert all the terminology I'll be on the home straight, I think that's my largest obstacle atm.

I had the same problem when I came from England -- the guy at the auto parts counter couldn't understand me when I asked for a rocker box gasket for my MGB.  :)

  3. Oh great, a "solver" who doesn't solve but lectures. No thank you!

That is uncalled for.  Eric has helped lots of people on this forum including me.  I think the bold text was to grab your attention as many people post questions and without knowing what version they are using it's just a shot in the dark.  If only they would read the sticky at the top then it wouldn't be necessary to remind them.

  4. As Eric said -- just add the second floor addition to your existing second floor.  You may want to make a new wall definition for this addition so they are easily identified as new.  Just take the existing wall that you are using and make a copy then change maybe the hatch to distinguish it from the existing walls.  If there are walls to be demolished you may want to separately identify them also.

  5. I have the same issue.  It seems as if the stair gets a little too wide (no idea why) and if I pull in the width then the winder section pops backing shape.  If I go back to it later then sometimes it has stayed put but then on other occasions it goes back to what you are experiencing.  I would send the plan to tech support and ask them to look at it.  If you lookout the second screen shot it appears as if that wall is cutting into the stair at its LH end.  If you pull that back then the stair winder section should correct itself.

I should add that I was using Chief but they both have the same basic programming.

  6. IMO The difference between laptops and desktops has narrowed in recent years.  I run a 2008 Mac Pro with two quad core Xeon CPUs and a GTX 285 GPU.  I just purchases a laptop to run games and it has an Intel i8 processor and nVidia GTX 970M.  The laptop is faster because it is 2016 technology and the Mac Pro is 2008 technology.  Having said that I recently built a PC with the i8 processor and high end graphics card for my flight simulator and I can honestly say that the laptop is just as fast.

I don't know if it was coincidence but when I switched to Chief Premier from HDPro I found that it runs faster.

Low rent ???  LOL   I decided I needed more flexibility -- particularly for the layout sheet sets and my contractor has more or less said I can do his design work ( I guess i'm too cheap and I would do this for nothing as I enjoy it so much).  I was watching a CA video and noticed that I can turn off that layer which answers my question.

  8. I did a search but couldn't find an answer.  Is it possible to turn off by default the tag for the windows in the layout set?  I find I never use them and it's an extra step to click on Suppress Tag every time I send an elevation or plan.

    Thanks

  9. Yes for site plans the 1" = 10'/20'/50' is quite normal as you are looking at large areas to fit in a drawing.  With elevations it's important to print to scale so you can add say vertical dimensions to identify tops of foundations and heights of ceilings and floors as that is one way or letting the framer know what room heights are.

Not sure if you can scale a watercolor view.

    Alan

  10. I needed to have my elevations to scale (on a 11x17 paper it was 1" = 10').  When I tried to send my elevation view to the layout it was too large and would not fit.  In my camera view (elevation) I was not in Vector View so it would not scale properly.

To test this out choose a camera view to get an elevation then go to the 3D tab on the toolbar click on Rendering Techniques and choose something other than Vector View.  Click on Send to Layout and you will see it's not to scale.  In Vector View you can click on Print>Drawing Sheet Setup the you can set the scale you want when you send it to your layout.

    Hope this helps.

  11. If you only have Current Screen as Image available, I'm guessing you've accidentally switched out of the "Vector" rendering technique in your Cross Section/Elevation view.

Thank you thank you thank you Kat -- you are a lifesaver.  I would never have thought about that even after doing a search in the HDPro help area.

  12. I am trying to send my elevation view to my layout page.  The page size is 11x17 and my elevation is 60' wide so I set the page layout to 1" = 5' so it will be around 12" on the layout.  However it is way to large at 24" wide.  What am I doing wrong here? No matter what scale I select the image on the layout is still 24" wide.  Please look at the screen shots.  The first shows where I set the 1" = 5' scale and the second is where I send it to the layout -- btw I cannot select anything other than "send as an image" which I really don't want to do as the other options are not selectable.

    Thanks
