  1. I have searched the help files and the library but can't find a bicycle object. I have some of the Bonus Libraries but not all of them. Can someone point me to where I can find one? Thanks, Susan HDA 2015
  2. The entire 6ft wide fireplace did extend upwards as far as I wanted to pull it, but I didn't think that the chimney needed to be 6 ft wide if the firebox was. I just looked at the one on my house now (the real one) and it is indeed that wide, so there you go. Thanks for the input. Susan HDA2015
  3. By the way, I want to say THANKS for posting your plan. I have a somewhat similar situation where I have a room that is 2 stories high with windows on top, It comes out to a point like yours with a gable roof. I could not for the life of me figure out how to create the upper wall with the windows in it. Everything I tried pushed the roof up which is what I didn't want. Our plans are a little different as your plan is one story with the upper portion on the attic level, and mine is a 2-story with the upper part on the 2nd level. But I was able to figure it out thanks to your plan. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
  4. The problem is that if I put a roof over the deck, then the whole U-shaped deck gets the roof. Not just the 2 bits at the end near the house. I was able to solve it by making 3 separate decks, and hiding the railings in between. So I have covered deck - uncovered deck - covered deck. Jo_Ann, that's exactly what I did. Thanks for your suggestion! Here are images of my solution, showing the three decks. Pic2 shows how I still can't get the flat-ish "shed" roof that I want for the covered parts. I have set the slope at 2". But I can live with this as this is not a final product by any means. Maybe I'll figure it out some day. I'm not in a hurry! LOVE this forum by the way.
  5. Guys, I have the Reference Manual. I have the User's Guide. I have viewed the help videos on this site about how to build roofs and special things about roofs (like the gable lines). I have searched not only this forum but the general internet about this issue. I don't post questions here lightly. If I post a question it is because I have exhausted all search possibilities and cannot find my answer. I learn best by finding things out for myself, and it is not easy for me to ask for help at all. If there is a specific page in the Reference Manual or User's Guide where I missed something vital that answers this question, then by all means please direct me to it. But I have already read them and they do not contain the information I need. I'll view the video when I'm a little less tired. Drawing topo lines for an 11-acre property is tiring. Thanks Susan
  6. HDA2015 here..... I have a question about this. I found a nice fireplace for the 1st floor family room and extended it through the wall so it's visible from the outside. I have trouble with the chimney also. I can't just extend the fireplace up to the top of the 2nd story. The part of the firebox that is inside the house will not extend upwards past the mantel, and the chimey is narrower than the total fireplace. If I have a 6 ft wide fireplace, the chimney is not 6 ft wide. It might be only 3-4 ft wide, and will only be on the outside of the home. I had to add a generic box to represent a chimney and use the dropper tool to copy the brick facade to it. This isn't really adequate as the materials won't be correct in the materials list. Am I missing something? Is a "proper" chimney generated in the 3D view for any fireplace, and I just didn't find it yet? Thanks Susan
  7. HDArch 2015. I am trying to design a partially covered deck. It is a U-shaped deck, and only the ends near the home are covered. I can't seem to get the definition right for the covered ends. A room defined as Deck will not allow a Roof over it. So I created a room called Porch with invisible walls, which let me put a roof over it. But then I lose all the Deck settings - no deck floor, no railings. I tried making the Porch a little smaller but was unable to place any railings around the edge of it. How do I make a Porch room look like a Deck with proper flooring and railings, and keep the roof? Do I use Interior Railings and then copy the materials from the external railings to them? I'm pretty sure I can figure out the floor, but the railings are confusing me. Please see attached drawing that I'm trying to replicate in HDA. Thanks Susan
  8. Thanks Mick - I'm new to Home Designer Architectural. When I downloaded the Bonus files, the link said X5 or X6 so I thought there was a correlation between them. Thanks for setting me straight. I'm using HDA 2015 only. and thanks Elovia too. I'll play it by ear. Since I'm redesigning the layout, I can make them however large/small I want! Susan
  9. Thank you for your suggestions, and I will try it.... but I have one image for the 1st floor and a 2nd image for the 2nd floor. Can I move both images to the attic level?
  10. I have added a picture that is a floor plan that I'm tracing. I'd like to temporarily hide it without deleting it. Other (cheaper) programs allow this option but not HDA 2015. I don't want to have to delete it to see my plan without the background, because it is a BEAR to import it again and resize to get the dimensions exactly right. I searched the forum but didn't find anything on this. I searched Help too. Thanks Susan HDA 2015 Win8.1
  11. I have a general question about floor plans.... I have a floor plan that I found online that I want to start with, and then modify. I have the picture as a background and am tracing it. But I'm confused about something. When they report that a room, say a bedroom, is "12' x 12'," do they include the width of the walls or not? If the walls are 4" thick, is the inside of the room really 12 feet, or is it 11 ft, 4 inches? One would think that it is really 12 feet without the wall thickness, but I want to be sure. Thanks!
